The angustifolia guadua is one of the
thickest bamboo species in the world. The biggest guadua
bamboo cultivation
field is located in Colombia, in the same land where the best coffee
of the world is grown. Guadua bamboo grows up to 3 inches (7 centimetes)
a day and when is growing has concluded, its height is around 75 feet
(24 meters).
The guadua bamboo plant basis is always wider that the other extreme
which is pointy. The guadua bamboo harvest is made when the plant
is four years old, and it is necessary to ask for a special permission
to the National Government, who gives it only to those people or companies
that fulfill lots of requirements.
The guadua bamboo cultivation auto-regenerate after its cutting. New
plants always sprout when there has been a good harvest.
After it has been cut, the guadua bamboo is taken to the factory,
where a pre-drying process is made by sunlight for a month.
Later on, the guadua is mechanically dry processed with solar energy.
When the bamboo gets 10% of humidity, it is stored. Finally, it is
cut and immersed in an insecticide to immunize it against the Dinoderus
Minutos, an insect that attacks Bamboo when it is not well treated.
